The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday framed charges against eight people, including JKG Healthcare Chairman Dr Sabrina Arif Chowdhury and her husband Ariful Haque Chowdhury, in the case filed on the charge of issuing fake Covid-19 test certificates.
Metropolitan Magistrate Sorafuzzaman Ansari passed the order in the presence of the accused people. After the charges were read against them, the accused pleaded not guilty.
On August 6, Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Zulfikar Hayat fixed August 13 for hearing on charge framing and transferred the case to the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Sorafuzzaman Ansari for further proceedings.
However, Magistrate Sorafuzzaman Ansari on August 13 adjourned the hearing till August 20, allowing time for five accused.
Detective Branch (DB) of Police on August 5 filed the charge-sheet of the case. Other six accused of the case are Abu Sayeed Chowdhury, Humayun Kabir Himu, Tanjila Patwari, Biplob Das, Shafikul Islam Romeo and Jebunnesa.
The Investigation Officer (IO) and DB Inspector Liakat Ali accused Sabrina and JKG CEO Ariful of being the masterminds behind the scam and others as their accomplices.
One Kamal Hossain filed the case with Tejgaon Model Police Station on June 15 for issuing fake Covid-19 test reports.
JKG Healthcare run by Ariful and his wife Dr Sabrina contrarily was realising money from the suspected patients for corona-virus test, whereas the company signed a deal with the government to conduct the test free of cost.
The company was even forging the signatures and seals of government agencies in making forged corona test reports, while throwing away the samples taken from suspected patients.
