Player of Bangladesh National Women’s Football team Sabina Khatun will leave the city today for Maldives to take part in the Club Maldives Women’s Futsal Fiesta 20215 scheduled to be held in Maldives from March 14 to April 17. Sabina Khatun will play for Maldives Police Club in the football meet. This is for the first time a Bangladeshi woman will play in a foreign football competition for a foreign football team.
Marking her appearance in a foreign football competition, a press conference was held at the conference room of Bangladesh Football Federation House on Tuesday. Deputy Chairperson of Women’s Wing of Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) Mahfuza Akter Kiron, General Secretary of BFF Md Abu Nayeem Shohag and Sabina Khaun were present at the conference.
Sabina Khatun will get 800 US dollars as her remuneration. Besides, Maldives Police Club will arrange her tickets and provide her accommodation.
Sabina Khatun said, “I have been playing in Bangladesh National Women’s Football team for five years. It is a great achievement for me as I am going to play for a foreign team. I hope that I shall perform well and bring success for my country.”
Answer to a question Sabina replied that the officials of Maldives Police had watched her performance in the match of SAFF Women’s Championship 2014 between Bangladesh National Women’s team and Maldives National Women’s team in Pakistan. ‘In that match Bangladesh beat Maldives by 4-1 goals’, she added.
Sabina Khatun said, “I want to be the highest scorer in the upcoming meet. If I perform well, then the other countries will hire female footballers from our country.”
Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) Women’s Wing Deputy-Chairman Mahfuza Akter Kiron, who is also executive member of Asian Football Confederation said, “Sabina’s participation in the foreign tournament is enough proof to show that the woman football of this country is moving into right direction. We negotiated with Maldives Football Federation to double the remuneration and added more facilities during her short stay in Maldives.”
