Bangladesh, rode on Sabbir Rahaman and Shakib Al Hasan’s brilliant batting display posted a competitive total of 147 for 7 from their allotted 20 overs against Sri Lanka in the A Asia Cup T20 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur in the city.
The Sri Lankan bowlers threatened early inroad on Bangladesh innings removing Mohammad Mithun in the very second ball of the first over while Soumya Sarkar also backed to the pavilion without disturbing the scoreboard in the next over off Nuwan Kulasekera delivery, after Bangladesh opted to bat first.
Experienced batsman Mushfiqur Rahim (4) one again failed to take the responsibility as he fall victim of run out by Mathews, leaving Bangladesh in deep trouble.
Opener Sabbir Rahaman and ace allrounder Shakib Al Hasan took the responsibility to stop the rot contributing 82 runs important partnership for the fourth wicket stand to take the team to a comfortable position.
Sabbir played a responsible knock of 80 runs off 54 runs laced with 10 boundaries and three over boundaries while Shaiikb supported him with a priceless 32 runs off 34 balls hitting three boundaries, both by Dushmantha Chameera’s delivery.
Later a late surge by Mahmudullah (23r off 12b) helped Bangladesh to set a competitive total in front of Sri Lanka. Mahmudullah cracked two boundaries and a sixer.
