National cricketer Sabbir Rahman of Sylhet Sixers has been fined 50 percent of his match fees for breaching Level 2 of the BCB code of conduct during the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match against Comilla Victorians at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
Sabbir violated article 2.2.4 of the BCB code of conduct for players and player support personnel, which relates to ‘Using language or gesture(s) that is seriously obscene, seriously offensive or of a seriously insulting nature to another player, player support personnel, umpire, match referee or any other third person during a match.
He was charged by on-field umpires Mahfuzur Rahman and Masudur Rahman Mukul, third umpire Tanvir Ahmed and fourth umpire Aktaruzzaman for directing obscene language towards a match official at the end of the game.
Sabbir admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Debabrata Paul and, as such, there was no need for a formal hearing.
In addition to the sanction imposed for the breach of article 2.2.4, three (03) demerit points have been added to Sabbir’s disciplinary record. Pursuant to article 7.5 of the code, if the player reaches four (04) or more demerit points in the tournament, the points will then be converted into suspension points. Four (04) demerit points equate to a ban of one (01) match.
Level 2 breaches carry a minimum penalty of a fine of 30 percent of the match fees and a maximum penalty of a suspension of one (01) match and three (03) or four (04) demerit points.
