South Africa declared their first innings making 496 runs for the loss of three wickets against Bangladesh on the second day of the first Test match at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom, South Africa on Friday.
In reply, Bangladesh were at 127 for the loss of three
wickets at the stumps. Bangladesh faced an early debacle as they lost two wickets for 36 runs.
Opener Imrul Kayes (7) was caught at the second slip by Aiden Markram off Kagiso Rabada when the tourists’ total was 16 for the loss of one wicket.
Then Liton Das (25) was caught at the first slip by Hashim Amla off Morne Morkel when the visitors’ score was 36.
Then Mushfiqur Rahim and Mominul Haque repaired the damage contributing together 67 runs for the third wicket partnership before Mushfiqur Rahim was caught at the forward short leg by Aiden Markram off Keshav Maharaj when the Tigers’ total was 103 for the loss of three wickets.
Mushfiqur Rahim hit a polished 44. His 67-ball innings was decorated with seven fours and a sixer.
Mominul Haque remained unbeaten with 28 runs, while Tamim Iqbal remained unbeaten with 22 runs.
Kagiso Rabada, Morne Morkel, Keshav Maharaj took one wicket each for 23, 34 and 38 runs respectively.
South Africa resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 298 for the loss of one wicket.
Opener Dean Elgar and one-down Hashim Amla resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 128 and 68 runs respectively.
They could add more 113 runs before Hashim Amla was caught at the backward point by Mehidy Hasan off Shafiul Islam when the hosts’ total was 411 for the loss of two wickets.
Amla notched up 137. His 200-ball innings was studded with 17 fours and a sixer. It was Hashim’s 27th Test century.
After departure of Amla, Dean Elgar was caught at the midwicket by Mominul Haque off Mustafizur Rahman when South Africa’s score was 445 for the loss of three wickets.
Elgar was deprived from a double century for just one run.
Elgar made a sparkle 199. His 388-ball innings was studded with 15 fours and a sixer.
After dismissal of Elgar, Temba Bahuma and Faf du Plessis added 51 runs for the unbroken fourth wicket partnership before South Africa declared their first innings.
Bahuma remained unbeaten with 31 runs, while Plessis remained unbeaten with 26 runs.
Shafiul Islam and Mustafizur Rahman took one wicket each for 74 and 98 runs respectively.
