Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury yesterday said that the South Asian countries have together set a bright example in paving ways for women leadership and making quick national progress under their able leadership.
“South Asia is now in a position to set a world record under women leadership in different countries at multiple levels,” she said at the plenary of a women legislator’s conference hosted by the Indian Parliament here.
Indian External Affairs Minister Shushma Swaraj and Ministry Affairs Minister Dr Nazma A. Heptullah, among others, spoke on the occasion as panelists.
Dr Shirin, who is also the chairperson of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), appreciated the initiative taken by the women lawmakers of India and said such dialogue would not only help exchange ideas and experiences but also bolster Indian women lawmakers to contribute more to their respective constituencies.
She dubbed women leadership as a ‘change agent’ in society and said women leadership has already proved its effectiveness in bringing changes in education, health, economy, social and other areas in all countries in South Asia that encompasses Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
