RWASA installs 22 pumps in Rajshahi city

Rajshahi Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (RWASA) has been installing 22 more production pumps in the city aiming to ensure smooth water supply to city dwellers.
The water pumps are being installed under a project titled, ‘Re-renovation of Water Supply in Rajshahi city’ in addition to the existing 82 pumps.
RWASA managing director Sultan Abdul Hamid said 12 pumps have already been installed in the city corporation area.
While inaugurating installation works of a pump at Mokbul Halder crossing area in the city yesterday afternoon, he said the newly installed pumps will benefit more than 10,000 families.
The RWASA is also implementing another project involving around Taka 34 crore to bring a qualitative change in the city’s water supply system.
Upon successful implementation of the project by this year, a sustainable water supply system is expected to be built in the city through improvement of both financial and manpower management capacities of the RWASA.
The government has taken the project to increase the supply of safe water to the city dwellers, Hamid said, adding that the RWASA is supplying water to the eight lakh city dwellers through a treatment plant and 84 pumps through extracting groundwater. But, he said, population of the city is increasing gradually.
A total of 20 mobile generators will be brought and 70-km (100 mm) and 45-km (150 mm) new pipelines will be set up, and 100 water flow metres will be installed under the project.
Currently, around 57,440-square-metre water is being supplied to about 34,263 households and industrial establishments daily against the total demand of 1.19 lakh square metre.
Hamid said the RWASA is committed to establish a safe water and sewerage management here and it has been working sincerely to attain its goal.
