Big day, bigger weekend! Its Rustom vs Mohenjo Daro aka Akshay Kumar vs Hrithik Roshan at the box-office. Mohenjo Daro helmed by Ashutosh Gowarikar is a period love story set during the days when the Indus Valley Civilisation was at its peak.
Hrithik Roshan and debutante Pooja Hegde star in the film. Rustom, directed by Tinu Suresh Desai features Akshay Kumar, Illeana D’cruz and Esha Gupta and is based on the Nanavati murder case. Rustom is Akshay Kumar’s third film of 2016 and Mohenjo Daro is Hrithik Roshan’s first film in two years.
The budget of the films varies widely. Rustom was made at the cost of around Rs. 50 crore while Mohenjo Daro’s budget is almost double. And add a sum of around 10 to 15 crore per film for promotions. Mohenjo Daro is releasing in about 2300-2500 screens, while Rustom has been allotted 2000 screens. Rustom has more massy elements while Mohenjo Daro might attract the multiplex audience more. According to the day one reports, the Akshay Kumar starrer is getting a thumbs-up as far as the reviews are concerned while the reaction to the Hrithik starrer is slightly lukewarm.
Going by the trends, Rustom should cross 15 cr on day one and Mohenjo Daro, something around 8.5-9 crores. Luckily, thanks to the Independence Day falling on Monday, both films get the benefit of an extended holiday weekend and will end up earning better in the process.
