Crowding for fitness certificates of buses, cars and other vehicles and making new driving license or renewal of old ones increased manifolds at Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) in Mirpur as the aftermath of the recent students movement for safe road.
Vehicle owners are also giving long queue at BRTA counters to up to date motor vehicles documents such new number places and digital numbers. Officials said, the people arrival has increased since last Thursday at BRTA to fix the problem as they fear driving is risky now without valid papers.
On Wednesday noon there was a long queue of private cars from BRTA gate to Bhashantek in the sector 13 of the capital’s Mirpur. BRTA officials said that the number of customers who almost doubled Assistant Director (License) Ali Ahsan Milon told The New Nation.
More people are coming for car fitness test and getting new fitness certificate.
Besides, people are making rush for renewal of license, making new licenses, biometric for smartcards, digital number plates, vehicle registration, ownership changes and new licenses are on the rise.
He said, 1200 to 1400 vehicles are crowding here every day for service compared to 800 to 900 in the past. “Our ten inspectors are checking the fitness of the vehicles. The fitness of these vehicles is checked daily. This crowd is being handled by our existing manpower,” he said.
The BRTA official said, previously there were 50 to 60 applications for renewal of driving license. It has sharply risen to 70 to 90 every day. Apart from this, 110 to 150 applications are submitted for new licenses.
Now, the number of application for new license increased to 230 from 150 every day. The numbers of customers have increased in three BRTA offices in Dhaka. Those who come every day will getting the service despite manpower shortage.
