Rupganj openers help to beat MSC in DPL super league

Legends of Rupganj’s openers Mithun and Soumya impressive batting enabled them to record an overwhelming 104-run victory over Mohammedan Sporting Club (MSC) Limited in the curtail 45 over super league match of Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPL) held on Sunday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
Chasing a winning target of 233 runs set by Rupganj, Mohammedan found the chase very stiff losing wickets at regular intervals and were finally dismissed at 128 in 31.5 overs.
Opener Hamidul Islam top scored for Mohammedan with 37 runs while skipper Mushfiqur Rahim added 34 as neither any Mohammedan batsman failed to build any effective partnership to chase their target.
Nahidul Islam, Alauddin Babu and P Negi shared two wickets each conceding 7, 22 and 30 runs respectively for Rupganj.
Earlier, a superb 89-run opening stand by Mohammad Mithun (59) and Soumya Sarker (40), guided Rupganj to a competitive total of 232 for 8 from the reduced 45 overs match due to rain. Mosharraf Hossain (32) and P Negi (28 n.o) were the other two notable batsmen for Rupganj.
Naeem Islam was the most successful bowler for Mohammedan as he claimed four wickets conceding 31 runs. He was well supported by Champac Perera who bagged two wickets giving away 35 runs.
Mohammad Mithun of Rupganj was named the player of the match for his impressive batting performance.
