Runner Independence Day Open Tennis begins today

The Runner Group Independence Day Open Tennis Tournament, organised by Bangladesh Tennis Federation, begins Sunday at the Ramna National Tennis Complex here.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Sree Biren Sikder MP will inaugurate the eight-day meet in the afternoon at a simple ceremony followed by a cultural program.
Chairman of the meet’s sponsor Runner Group Hafizur Rahman Khan will also be present at the function as special guest.
A total of 267 players, including 67 male and 17 female, from 30 clubs across the country will take part in the five events-men’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s singles, inter-club team and mini tennis (for boys and girls).
Vice President of Bangladesh Tennis Federation (BTF) and Tournament Director Mohammad Ali Deen disclosed the details of the meet at a press conference at the federation office on Saturday.
BTF general secretary M Abdur Rahman, Vice-Chairman of Runner Group M Mozammel Haque also spoke on the occasion. Director International Operations of Runner Group M Anwarul Azim was also present on the occasion.
Amol Roy and Sharmin Alam Sarda are the top seed in the men’s and women’s
groups respectively .
Of the total budget of Tk 4.5 lakh, meet’s sponsor Runner Group will provide the entire amount in addition to trophies, gift and venue decoration. A sum of Tk 1.47 lakh to be given as prize money
The men’s singles champion will get prize money of Tk 20,000, the men’s doubles champions Tk 10,000 and the women’s singles champion Tk 12,000.
The champions of mini tennis and inter-club team event will given trophy only.
