Runner Automobiles Limited, the country’s leading runner-up, has concealed a sale price of Tk 70.47 crore. At the same time, it evaded VAT of Tk 21 crore.
Former Director General of VAT Detective and Investigation Department and current NBR member Dr. . Moinul Khan confirmed the matter to the media on Wednesday noon. He said the VAT detective team conducted the operation at Runner Automobiles Limited. The operation initially showed that the company had hidden the VAT’s sale price of Tk 70.47 crore. About 20 crore 86 lakh taka of VAT has been evaded in the hidden sale price.
Moinul Khan further said that the company is a public limited company, under which there is one factory, one commercial importer and more than
one car showrooms.
Meanwhile, according to VAT intelligence sources, a buyer lodged a complaint with the VAT intelligence office.
In the light of the allegations, under the leadership of the Assistant Director of VAT Detective Harun Aur Rashid, the operation was carried out in the head office of the organization on March 30 this year. During the operation, the detective team found that company had evaded VAT by hiding the actual sales information in its monthly submission.
At the beginning of the inspection, the officers were requested to show the VAT related and commercial documents of the organization. Apart from this, some commercial and VAT related documents kept in different places of the organization were seized as there were signs of VAT evasion by the authorities of the organization. All this information is found to be inconsistent with the VAT documents.
