One of the legendary singers of the Subcontinent, Runa Laila on April 10 celebrated her 50 years in melody with songs and recalling of memories.
Her vibrant presence on the stage, magical voice and ever-youthful nature — all had the audience mesmerised.
To celebrate the 50 years of her singing career, Entourage Entertainment organised a musical night titled Celebration of Music at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city’s Sher-e-Banglanagar on April 10.
Anchored by Naveed Mahbub artistes from the neighbouring India, Bollywood actor Fawad Khan and popular Indian playback singer KK also performed in the programme.
Renowned and versatile singer Ferdousi Rahman was present during celebration programme. Among others, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque and Runa Laila’s husband noted film actor Alamgir were also present on the occasion.
The event was not limited to songs. Some dance moves were involved as well. Therefore, popular artistes including actress Anjana, and singers Khurshid Alam, Abida Sultana and Shakila Zafar persuaded with the tracks – Pan Khaiya Thot Lal Korilam, Sadher Lau Banailo More Boiragi and Istitioner Railgarita Maipa Choley Ghorir Kanta.
The audience could not cease to shower the veteran singer with applause when she voiced her popular tracks including Dama Dam Mast Kalandar, Pardeshi Megh Re, Jokhon Thambey Kolahol, Ei Bristi Veja Raatey, Allah Megh Dey Pani Dey, Bondhu Tin Din and Jokhon Ami Thakbo Nako.
She took a trip down to the memory lane with tears.
Runa reminisced about her parents and sister Dina Laila, saying that she could not have been ‘Runa Laila,’ had they not been with her.
