The High Court (HC) on Sunday issued a rule upon the government to explain in 10 days as to why they should not be directed to appoint 388 pool teachers in the permanent posts of assistant teachers in the government primary schools.
A HC bench headed by Justice Tariq ul Hakim
passed the order after hearing four separate writ petitions filed by the 388 pool teachers.
Advocate Siddiq Ullah Mia took part in the hearing on behalf of the petitioners. Deputy Attorney General Amatul Karim stood for the State.
A circular was published in 2011 to recruit assistant teachers for the government primary schools. About 27 thousand and 720 applicants were finally selected through written test and viva voce. The result was published on 12 August in 2012.
But the authority appointed 12 thousand and 701 applicants only as permanent teachers and 15 thousand and 19 applicants as pool teachers. The pool teachers were supposed to be absorbed as permanent assistant teachers gradually.
But instead, the government published again a circular on September 14, 2014 to recruit new teachers. At this, some pool teachers filed writ petitions with the HC challenging the legality of the circular.
Then the HC stayed the circular on October 19 in 2014 and issued rule after hearing on 70 writ petitions. After final hearing on the petitions, the HC ordered to appoint more than 2100 applicants as permanent assistant teachers.
Subsequently, 388 new pool teachers from Sylhet and Bagerhat districts filed four writ petitions recently. The HC passed the order after hearing the petitions.
