Teachers, students and staff of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) on Thursday celebrated the university’s 12th founding anniversary amid great enthusiasm and festivity on the campus.
RUET Vice Chancellor Prof Mohd Rafiqul Alam Beg inaugurated the day at 9am in front of the administrative building by hoisting the national and university flags, and releasing pigeons.
They, then, placed wreaths at the graves of those students of the university who died during the liberation war of the country.
Marking the day, the teachers, students and staff of the university brought out a colourful procession with banners and festoons at 10am, led by the vice chancellor where more than a thousand students, teachers and staff took part.
Later, a discussion was held at the university’s central auditorium.
Addressing the programme, RUET Vice Chancellor Rafiqul Alam in his speech vowed to establish a violent and militarism free campus.
He also emphasised on upholding the tradition of the university and urged the students to play a greater role in engineering sectors promoting the spirit of the Liberation War and freethinking.
RUET registrar Prof Mosharraf Hossain, Prof NHM Kamruzzaman, Director of RUET students welfare office, Prof Abdul Alim, president of RUET teachers association and all the deans, among others, were present at the programme.
