The 4th Convocation of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) held on Tuesday amid huge enthusiasm and festivity.
President Abdul Hamid, the Chancellor of the university chaired the convocation while eminent educationist and engineer Professor Dr. Zamilur Reza Choudhury, the Vice-Chancellor of Asia Pacific University attended as the Convocation Speaker.
A total of 2,050 graduates were conferred certificate in different disciplines. Besides, 37 students received M.Phil and PhD awards.
The Convocation begun at 2:30 pm with the convocation procession led by the Chancellor of the University, started from university administrative building and ended at the convocation venue at University play ground, decorated with flowers and colorful pandals. The cheerful graduates wearing black robes and square hats, symbol of their academic success stood up while National Anthem was played just after ending of Convocation procession. The main Convocation program was started with recitation from the holy Quarn as per the university tradition.
The Chancellor said that government declared “Vision 2021” largely depends on information technology based. “Not only economic development, but the development of intelligence, the non-communal spirit, above all, quality education is the only way to awaken the spirit of patriotism”, he added.
In his convocation speech, Professor Zamilur Reza said, “Out of the academic knowledge, we should discover new and sustainable ways to deal with modern science and technology avoiding the orthodoxy.”
