The High Court on Monday granted an anticipatory bail for four weeks to national cricketer Rubel Hossain in a rape case. An HC bench comprising Justice Syed AB Mahmudul Haque and Justice M Akram Hossain Chowdhury passed the order following a bail petition filed by Rubel. Deputy attorney general M Bashirullah confirmed the bail. Earlier on Saturday, actress Naznin Akter Happy filed the case against the National Cricket Team pacer with Mirpur Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. According to the first information report (FIR), the actress had been involved in a consensual relationship with Rubel for last eight months. It also said Rubel had promised to marry her in order to develop physical relationship. As Rubel reportedly backtracked from that pledge, the actress filed the case alleging that Rubel raped her several times at his flat located beside Mirpur Commerce College under Mirpur police station. Meanwhile, a day after filing the case, Happy on Sunday said she would withdraw the case if Rubel agrees to marry her. Rubel was first picked in the national team in late 2008 after some consistently good performances in the Cricket Academy and he made his international debut in January 2009. The youngest boy of a family of seven, the 25-year-old pacer from Bagerhat played 22 Tests, 53 ODIs and 11 T20Is in his playing career.– UNB, Dhaka.
