Rajshahi University authorities have withdrawn its decision of closing the residential hall during the winter vacation after a six hours continuous demonstration by leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Rajshahi University Unit and general students yesterday. Students expressed their satisfaction to the authorities’ decision though it came after a six hours long demonstration.
Agitators yesterday laid seige to the administrative building for six hours demanding for not to close the residential hall during the winter vacation.
RU vice chancellor Prof Muhammad Mizanuddin was confined inside the building during the demonstration.
“Taking the student’s demand into the consideration, we have taken decision to remain the residential hall open”, said Sheuly Shamim Shanta, convener of the university provost council. The university will go for a 14-days winter vacation started from January 01. Earlier the authority took decision to close the residential hall from December 31 to January 07.
Following the decision, students, different political and socio-cultural organizations went on protest and demanded to remain the hall open during the vacation.
