Vice Chancellor of Rajshahi University (RU) Prof M Abdus Sobhan on Saturday called upon the freedom fighters (FFs) to counter the quota reforms agitators on the campuses as well as across the country.
“The students are continuing demonstration against the existing quota systems for the children of
freedom fighters. Who they are? Can’t you protest the demonstration?” The VC asked while addressing as the special guest a scholarship distribution programme on the campus in the morning.
Organised by the “Muktijudda Scholarship Scheme” the programme was presided over by Mr. Abhijit Chattopadhyay, Assistant High Commissioner of India in Rajshahi.
General Secretary of Workers Party and Lawmaker of Rajshahi-2 constituency Fazle Hossain Badsha was present at the ceremony as the chief guest.
University professor Ruhul Amin Pramanik moderated the programme.
Students at higher secondary and undergraduate levels got a one-time grant of Tk 20,000 and Tk 50,000 respectively under the programme.
Among the 266 awardees, 31 students are from Rajshahi district, 112 from Bogura, 13 from Natore, 12 from Chapainawabgonj, 36 from Naogaon, 10 from Joypurahat, 34 from Sirajgonj and 18 from Pabna.
