RU Correspondent :
The teachers and the students of Rajshahi University’s (RU) English Department will demonstrate every Saturday, demanding punishment to the killers of Professor AFM Rezul Karim Siddique.
The decision was taken at a rally held on the Mukul Mancha, a makeshift platform set up after the nickname of the slain professor.
About two hundred teachers and students of the department brought out a protest procession on the campus at 12:00am and then organised a short rally in front of the Shahidullah Arts Building.
The speakers slammed the slow progress of the investigation into the Prof killing case.
Prof Maswood Akhter, Chairman of the Department, said that one month elapsed since three ministers gave us assurances of arresting the killers, but there had been no progress so far.
“We do not want to see crossfire but exemplary punishment”, said Prof Maswood observing the country’s present situation. Arrest as quick as possible is our demand.
Among others, Prof Dr. Muhammad Shahidullah, Prof Asit Kumar Das, Prof Shehnaj Yasmin and Prof Abdullah Al Mamun addressed the rally.
It is to be mentioned that Professor AFM Rezul Karim Siddique, a teacher of RU English Department, was murdered in Rajshahi’s Shalbagan area on April 23 by some unidentified miscreants.
