Vishnu Kumar Adhikari, an assistant professor at the Institute of Education and Research, Rajshahi University (RU), has been directed to be banned from academic activities for six years.
The university administration took the decision after finding the allegations of sexual harassment made by the two students to be true.
Earlier, on June 25 and 26, 2019, two students lodged a written complaint against Vishnu Kumar Adhikari for harassment and sexual harassment.
On July 2, the teacher was given a temporary suspension from all academic activities of the institute, and the university administration formed a committee to investigate the incident.
Professor Abdul Alim, a syndicate member of Rajshahi University, said that the investigation committee has found proof of the incident.
After receiving the results of the investigative report, the syndicate meeting held on Saturday directed that the professor be banned from all academic activities of the university for six years. However, he will have the opportunity to defend himself on trial.
He added that if Professor Kumar is banned, he will not be able to take any kind of class examination in six years. He will be banned from all kinds of facilities the university provides, from remuneration and allowance to promotion in the duration of the six years.
Rajshahi University Registrar Abdus Salam said no disciplinary action has been taken yet. Kumar will now be given a notice based on the investigation report. The next decision will be based on his response and defence. The professor will be given two weeks of time. The syndicate will then take disciplinary action against him based on how the case carries out.
