Abdullah Al Mamun, Associate Professor of the Mass Communication and Journalism department of Rajshahi University on Monday took a symbolic class in front of the Rabindranath Tagore academic building of the university protesting the closure of educational institutions since March 18, 2020, due to the COVID-19 situation.
He last Friday declared in a Facebook post to meet the students under a tree from the following week if classrooms would not open immediately.
Around 10/15 students from different departments were present in the class maintaining hygiene rules.
RU Anthropology department associate professor Bokhtiar Ahmed and Folklore department associate professor Amirul Islam appeared in the class and delivered speeches.
Amirul Islam declared to take classes from next Tuesday and said, The current education system of this country is underprivileged. Our classes are symbolic. Thus we are giving a message to the government to open the educational institutions maintaining hygiene rules immediately.
Abdullah Al Mamun said, The decisions coming from the government about opening the educational institutions are illogical. So, we are taking symbolic classes protesting the government decisions and it will be continued.
