We have to go back twelve years to know about the foundation of Swajon that was launched on Oct 12, 2002. The eventual death of a mother due to insufficiency of blood was the pillar of its foundation.
Mostafizur Rahman Ritu, the then 3rd year student of political science department of RU whose mother, Saleha Khatun who was suffering from blood cancer, died due to the scarcity of blood, built this organization.
He realized the matter of establishing a voluntary blood donor’s organization while he suffered much to collect blood to save his mother’s life. He organized a voluntary blood donation association with the help of Rajshahi University (RU) authority at RU campus titled “Eso Mora hoi Swajon, Thakbe Moder Rokter Bondhon” on Oct.12, 2002.
Later, on Aug 15, 2007, the organization was registered at the department of social services of the government.
Swajon has already launched its two zone at Kushtia Govt. Collage and Varendra University, Rajshahi while two others zone are going to be launched soon at Begum Rokeya University and Pabna Science and Technology University, said Saiful Islam, vice-president of Swajon.
The main objective of Swajon is to provide blood without any consideration. Swajon has a full-fledged central executive committee in RU who monitored the works of residential hall committee to fulfill their objective. They also have an advisory committee to advise their ongoing works.
There are several purposes of Swajon. These are to influence others to donate blood, to offer blood free of coast to the people and to create awareness about general and serious diseases.
