Job seekers and students of different departments at the Rajshahi University (RU)on Monday staged demonstrations for the fourth consecutive day demanding reformation of existing quota system in BCS (Bangladesh Civil Service) and other government recruitment process.
Currently, 44 percent are recruited on merit and the remaining 56 percent on privilege allocated under various quotas.
Campus sources said a group of nearly 2000 students from different departments formed a human chain yesterday at around 11:00am at the Paris road.
At the time the students announced the continuation of their movement until the realization of the 5-point demands fully.
The five-point demand are: 10 per cent fixed quota instead of existing 56 per cent, recruitment of meritorious students in government jobs if eligible candidates are not found under the quota, cancelling special recruitment test for quota candidates, fixing an indifferent cut mark and age-limit for all in the job field, and cancelling the quota facility for more than one time.They were seen carrying placards demanding introduction of unified pass marks for all candidates of BCS preliminary test, review of quota system in Bangladesh Civil Services (BCS) and other government jobs, fixation of 10 percent quota instead of existing 57 percent etc.Huge law enforcers were seen around the demonstrators.
MasudMonnaf, masters student of Islamic Studies dept presided over the program while Political Science Dept student Mominul, Social Work dept student Rabbi Islam, Bangla dept student Masud Rana, Institute of Education and Research Nasim Ahmed and Population Science and Human Resource Development student Hridoy Khan, among others, addressed the program.
They also said, in Bangladesh, 257 types of quota are reserved for children- grandchildren of freedom fighter, district, minority, physically challenged, ansar VDP, player, pets, territory and sister which are not seen on the other countries even India.
They have also called on the authorities to ensure the same age limit for all for entry to government jobs and stop people from using quotas more than once in entry tests.
