RU student killed in campus as truck hits motorcycle Protests flare up in campus

A student of Rajshahi University was killed and another injured when a truck hit a motorcycle in front of Shaheed Habibur Rahman Hall inside the campus on Tuesday night.
The deceased was identified as Mahmud Habib Himel, a fourth-year student of Graphics Design, Crafts and History of Art department, reported our correspondent.
The other injured-Rimel, a fourth-year student of Ceramic and Sculpture Department-was whisked off to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
According to eyewitnesses, a truck carrying construction materials hit the motorcycle over around 8:45pm near Shaheed Habibur Rahman Hall, leaving Himel dead on the spot and critically injuring Rimel.
As the news spread, disquieted students torched five vehicles including the truck and demonstrated in front of the Vice-Chancellor’s residence protesting the incident.
Later, the students baffled Dhaka-Rajshahi Highway demanding justice.
Public Relation Officer of Rajshahi University Pradip Kumar Pandey said the incident will be properly investigated and the culprits will be brought to justice.
He also said, VC Prof Golam Sabbir Sattar requested the students to keep calm.
