RU Correspondent :
A group of activists belonging to the Rajshahi University unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League clubbed a student on Tuesday upon a complaint lodged by a female student that he irritated her.
The humiliated student identified as Hedayetullah AL Mamun is a student of Language department. He was given primary treatment at the university medical centre.
Witnesses said, a group of students numbering four to five headed by RU unit Environment Affairs Secretary Mustakim Billah, whose expulsion order had been withdrawn very recently by the central executive committee, caught Mamun in front of the Shahidullah Arts building and asked him as to why did he disturb a female student of History department. The female student lodged the complaint with Billah through his boy friend, who is also a BCL activist.
At one stage of their conversation, Billah and his company started to slap him randomly and walloped him with scrap of wood, breaking part of a bench beside a tea stall.
On information, some senior BCL leaders rushed to the spot and took the situation under control. They also negotiated the dispute amicably.
When contacted, Mamun said that he just sent her love proposal in cell phone. “I never disturbed her, but they (BCL workers) clubbed me calling me an ‘abuser”.
Contrarily, Billah denied the allegation of beating Mamun and told that he had simply forbade Mamun that the female student must not be disturbed. He also threatened to take steps through anti-sexual harassment committee of the university.
