A two-day little magazine fair titled “Chinno Mela: Bishaw Bangla” has begun at Rajshahi University for the third time.
Marking the 16th anniversary, Chinho, a little campus magazine of RU, organised the fair in front of the university Shahidullah Arts building, said Prof Dr Shahid Iqbal, editor of Chinho.
Eminent writer Anisuzzaman and Selina Hossain inaugurated the fair with noted writer Hasan Azizul Haque, RU vice-chancellor Professor Muhammad Mizanuddin in presence.
This year, a total of 400 magazines, including 40 from West Bengal will participate at the event while about three hundred of writers, readers and editors of the different little magazines across the country and West Bengal of India are expected to join the fair, Prof Iqbal also said. On the closing day of the fair, award will be given to two writers of little magazines for their contribution on two distinct branches of Bengali literature named ‘creative’ branch and ‘innovative’ branch.
Inter-varsity cricket competition
The Bangladesh Inter-University Cricket Competition-2016 has started at Rajshahi University (RU) through a colorful inaugural ceremony on Saturday morning.
The inaugural ceremony was started at 10 am at the university stadium. RU Pro-Vice Chancellor Chawdhury Sarwar Jahan Sajal inaugurated the competition ceremony as a chief guest while university treasurer Prof Sayen Uddin Ahmed was present as a special guest.
Rajshahi University, Bangladesh Agriculture University, Jessore University of Science and Technology University, Haji Muhammad Danesh University of Science Technology, Patuakhali University of Science and Technology, Islami University, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology, Khulna University, Sher-e-Bangla Agriculture University and Jatio Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University cricket teams will contest the Inter University Cricket competition. Rajshahi University is host of the 11 day-long competition.
Mark Fair on March 7
A two-day long Mark Fair ‘Bissha Bangla-2016’ will be held at Rajshahi University (RU) campus on 7 March. About 110 small paper stall and over 300 writers, editors of home and abroad will participate in the fair. Chinho, a small magazine of RU will hold the fair for the 3rd time.
The fair will be held at Shahidullah Arts building square of the university on March 7 and 8. This matter informed to the newsmen through a press conference at the teachers lounge of university deans complex on Thursday noon.
Rahman Raju, executive of Chinho said in the conference, the fair will be inaugurated by Anisuzzamn Prof emirates of Dhaka University (DU) and Selina Hossain. RU Vice Chancellor Prof Muhammad Mizanuddin , pro-VC Prof Chawdhury Sarwar Jahan, fiction writer Hassan Azizul Haque and economist Prof Sanath Kumar Saha will also present in the inaugural session.
Workshop on social entrepreneurship
A workshop on ‘Social Entrepreneurship and Key to Success’ was held at Rajshahi University on Saturday.
The Youth School for Social Entrepreneurs (YSSE), a youth led non-government organization organised the training programme at the gallery room of the university Momtazuddin Arts building with aims at developing powerful youth led entrepreneurship. About 200 students from different departments of the university participated in the programme. RU students’ adviser Prof Sadekul Arefin Matin spoke at programme as chief guest with YSEE founder president Sheikh Md. Yousuf Hossain in the chair. Renowned author Md. Almasur Rahman and management consultant Farhad Hossain Bipu were the trainees of the workshop.
”Our objective is to promote social entrepreneurship and foster youth as social entrepreneurs to create positive social and environmental changes through their innovative ideas and actions”, said YSEE president.
