Rajshahi University (RU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sister Nivedita University in West Bengal of India for bilateral cooperation in the fields of higher education and research.
RU Vice-chancellor (VC) Prof Golam Sabbir Sattar and his counterpart VC Dhruba Jyoti signed the deal on behalf of their respective sides at the administrative building conference hall on Monday, reports BSS.
With this initiative, teachers, students and researchers of both the universities will be benefited in terms of sharing their knowledge. The contract has also created long-term scopes of joint research and studies that will contribute a lot to quality improvement of the two universities.
RU Pro-VCs Prof Chowdhury Jakaria and Prof Sultan-Ul-Islam, Treasurer Prof Obaidur Rahman Pramanik and Registrar Prof Abdus Salam were present at the signing ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, VC Prof Golam Sabbir said the two neighbouring countries, Bangladesh and India, maintain close and cordial relations on various bilateral fields and issues.
Bangladesh and India, as the closest neighbours, will continue to work together to establish a secure South Asia for the benefit of all people.
He said the relationship has its genesis in the War of Liberation in 1971 and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman maintained excellent relations with the Indian leadership.
“We recall with deep gratitude the contribution of the government of India for standing firmly by us in our most difficult time,” he said.
Prof Sabbir Sattar said the partnership is multifaceted and in the past few years, since Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina assumed office, they have attained some tangible goals in many areas.
