Rustam Ali murder: RU Shibir men sued

A murder case has been filed against leaders and activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir over killing of Rajshahi University BCL leader Rustom Ali Akond.
BCL RU unit Vice-President Mehedi Hasan filed the case with Motihar Police Station on Saturday night naming seven persons including Shibir RU unit President Ashraful Alam Emon and eight unnamed.
Meanwhile, two Shibir men were arrested by a team of detective branch of police from the city, suspecting their alleged involvement in the killing of Rustom Ali, Officer-in-Charge of DB, Ziaur
Rahman, confirmed. They have been identified as Shibir RU unit Finance Secretary Sanaullah Jacky and activist Khurshed Alam.
Earlier, on Friday, Rustom, a fourth year Political Science student and the Joint-Secretary of RU BCL Suhrawardy Hall Unit, was shot dead in his dormitory room.
However, on Sunday, early in the morning, over hundred leaders and activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir led by Shibir RU unit Organizing Secretary Shoaib Shahriar brought out a procession near the university Kazla gate area protesting the case filed against the Shibir leaders and activists, including RU unit president.
They urged the law enforcers and BCL leaders to withdraw the case claiming that they had no involvement in the killing of Rustom Ali.
On the other hand, indefinite strike enforced by the BCL RU unit was also observed yesterday for the second consecutive day.
No classes and examinations were held due to strike.
BCL leaders and activists also formed a human chain in front of the university’ central library, demanding immediate arrest of the culprits, who were involved in the Rustom killing and banning politics of Islami Chhatra Shibir on the campus.
BCL leaders vowed to continue their indefinite strike until their demands are met.
