Rajshahi University (RU) authority has launched seat reservation in its buses for the students with disability to make their mobility smooth. From now on, five seats will be kept reserved for the physically challenged students in each bus. The reserved seats will be marked with a special sign.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Golam Sabbir Sattar accompanied by Pro-vice-chancellors Prof Chowdhury Jakaria and Prof Sultan-Ul-Islam, Registrar Prof Abdus Salam and Proctor Prof Asabul Haque opened the venture at the campus on Tuesday.
Earlier on December 11 last, the decision had been taken in the meeting of RU’s 509th syndicate. In the meeting, the RU has adopted some other time-fitting measures to ensure an enabling situation to the students with special needs aimed at making their academic life easier, reports BSS.
Ramp will be established in the entry points of all academic, administrative and dormitory buildings side by side with the conventional stairs.
Besides, seats will be ensured in the ground floors of the dormitories for the first-year students with physical disabilities on priority basis.
Apart from this, the visually impaired students will get 10 minutes extra in examinations. Supportive people will also be ensured for them, RU sources said.
