RU regn date for admn test now from Aug 27
The registration date of admission tests for first year honors courses under 2014-15 academic year of Rajshahi University (RU) has been changed due to unavoidable reason.
The date which was fixed to begin on August 25, now will be started from August 27 at 12:00pm, said a press release of the university.
The tests will be continued till September 14, press release added.
The registration process will be conducted through the short message system of teletalk mobile operator.
Admission tests under 8 unites will be held from October 19 to October 25.
Details of the admission tests would be available in the university websites www.ru.ac.bd and http://admission.ru.ac.bd.
RU observes ‘Students-Teachers Repression Day’
The Rajshahi University authorities, repressed teachers-students and different sociology-cultural organisations observed the ‘Teachers-Students Repression Day’ amid protest and anger against the countrywide atrocities on their fellows from August 20 to 23 in 2007 during the military-backed caretaker government rule.
They also demanded withdrawal of cases against 13 RU students who were involved in the movement against the then military rule.
After the violence in RU campus, the then acting registrar of RU, Prof Muhammad Shafi, sued 13 students named and 500 others unnamed on August 23 for their alleged involvement in the violence.
Though the cases against teachers of including Dhaka and Rajshahi universities were withdrawn, the cases against students were not withdrawn yet.
On August 20, 2007, army personnel beat three Dhaka University (DU) students and insulted a teacher on the DU gymnasium playground during a football match. The incident sparked protests and clashes between police and students, spreading from DU to the rest of the country’s educational institutions.
During the clashes at RU, a rickshaw-puller was killed, around 200 people were injured, vehicles were torched and properties, including the vice-chancellor’s residence, were damaged. Rajshahi University authorities held a discussion programme at RU senate building demanding exemplary punishment for law enforcers who carried out the atrocities in RU during the time.
