BSS, Dhaka :
President M Abdul Hamid has said Right to Information (RTI) Act plays a pivotal role in empowering people, establishing rights and ensuring transparency and accountability in state affairs.
In a message yesterday on the eve of the ‘International Right to Know Day 2015’, the President said information keeps people aware and helps take right decision.
“RTI Act plays a prominent role in setting up a well governed society by promoting transparency and accountability in state affairs. Free flow of Information strengthens citizens’ right of access to information as well as empowers people to exercise their right at both society and state levels,” he said.
“RTI is the fundamental and constitutional right of the people. Present government passed the Right to Information Act, 2009 prioritizing the right of people to access information and to that effect ensured free flow of information in the country.
As a result, people have got the opportunity to obtain all information,” he added.
He said that Information Commission has taken different measures to apprise people of the very basics of RTI with the help of public as well as private radios and television networks and print media. As a result, people are becoming more and more aware of the right to information and well versed with the techniques of using this Act. “The role of RTI Act is very important in establishing good governance and democracy in the country.
I believe, people will be more enlightened through their participation in different programs organized throughout the week and will be accustomed to use it to make state affairs more transparent and accelerated,” he said.
He wished every success of the programs to be held during the ‘Right to Information week’.
