Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmad on Wednesday said with obtaining government-providing recognition of prior learning (RPL) certificates, returnee migrant workers will be able to go abroad again as ‘skilled manpower’.
“The returnee workers will be able to earn more going abroad again as RPL certificate holder. They will be counted as a skill worker,” the minister said while addressing a discussion in the auditorium of Bangladesh-Korea Technical Training Centre (BKTTC) in the capital.
The programme was organised marking the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Children’s Day.
Imran Ahmad said about four lakh Bangladeshi migrant workers returned home from abroad during the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.
The ministry has undertaken initiative to provide them with RPL certificates based on skills they have acquired abroad, he said.
The minister said that his ministry has taken initiative to create ‘Mujib Corner’ at every Technical Training Centre (TTC) in the country. In the programme, the minister handed RPL certificates among three returnee migrants from Qatar, Jordan and Malaysia.
The minister said his ministry has taken various initiatives to help the returnee migrant workers and distributing loans with easy conditions, giving skill building training and helping to return jobs in previous or other countries.
Imran Ahmed said, while job markets are shrinking in traditional countries in the Middle East, his ministry is trying to find out new labour markets abroad to create job opportunities for Bangladeshi manpower.
He said Central Asian countries like Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, East European countries, including Romania, Bosnia, Serbia and Croatia are among the new labour markets where enormous opportunities have been found for Bangladeshi workers. Some workers have been sent to Uzbekistan and Romania in the meantime.
