UNB, Dhaka :Hailing the Prime Minister for asking her party leaders to root out ‘weeds’ from it, BNP spokesman Asaduzzaman Ripon on Wednesday called upon her for purging her cabinet from ‘destructive elements’ to overcome the country’s current anarchic situation.”We support the Prime Minister’s instruction to root out weeds from Chhatra League. Had she taken the initiative much earlier, the current anarchic situation wouldn’t have created in the country and people wouldn’t have suffered and the government and police officials wouldn’t have been beaten up,” he said. The BNP leader further said, “It won’t be enough only to root out bad elements from Chhatra League. The weeds must be rooted out from Awami League, its all associate bodies, including Jubo League and Swechchhasebak League. Even, the bad elements from the Cabinet will have to be stamped out.  We hope the Prime Minister will take such an initiative.”Ripon came up with the remarks while speaking at a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office.Earlier on Monday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called for uprooting all the “weeds” from Awami League and its affiliate student body Bangladesh Chhatra League to build the organisations with Bangabandhu’ s ideals.Mentioning that the Prime Minister has started eliminating weeds from the bottom of her party, Ripon hoped that she will gradually do it at all levels of the party and her cabinet, too. “Awami League will dry down and turn fragile if it is not freed from weeds and parasite overpowered it.”He strongly condemned and protested the filling of three ‘false political’ cases against Natore BNP president and its central leader Ruhul Quddus Talkukder Dulu and other local BNP leaders in an incident with which they have no involvement. The BNP spokesman alleged that the local police at the behest of local MP Ahad Ali Sarker are arresting BNP leaders and activists in incidents carried out by local terrorists and ruling party cadres. He also alleged the law enforcers are repressing and harassing the BNP men indulging in ‘arrest trade’.Criticising the mayors of Dhaka north and south cities for their inaction to take any steps to ease waterlogging, the BNP leader said the city management is being run without any plan.”Before the election, the two mayor candidates were seen cleaning the city streets with brooms to the surprise of all. Where’re those mayors elected through fake votes now? They can now drain out rainwater using pots with boats to relive the city dwellers of waterlogging.” He said a pragmatic plan is needed to resolve the waterlogging problems in the two cities of the capital.
