Rony’s bail plea rejected

A Dhaka court on Thursday rejected the bail petition of Bakhtiar Alam Rony, son of Awami League MP Pinu Khan and also passed orders to send him to the jail in a case filed for shooting two people with his firearm in New Eskaton area of the capital.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate M Aminul Haque gave the order when Rony was produced to his court on completion of his two-day remand. Earlier in the morning, Rony’s lawyer Qazi Najibullah Hiro filed the fresh bail petition.
On June 30, a court placed Rony on a two-day fresh remand in the case. With this, Rony has been placed on total of 10 days’ remand.
On April 13, Rony, allegedly a drug addict, opened fire on people indiscriminately near the Janakantha Bhaban in New Eskaton area from his car, leaving two people: rickshaw-puller Abdul Hakim and Janakantha’s auto-rickshaw driver Yakub injured with bullets.
Hakim succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) on April 15, while Yeakub died at the hospital on April 23.
On April 15, a case was filed with Ramna Police Station against unidentified people in this connection. On June 1, law enforces arrested Rony from his Dhanmondi residence in connection with the incident.
