Court Correspondent :A Dhaka court yesterday (Tuesday) rejected the bail petition of Awami League lawmaker Pinu Khan’s son Bakhtiar Alam Rony in a case filed for killing two people on a street in the capital. Magistrate Aminul Haque of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM)Court of Dhaka rejected Rony’s bail petition after hearing on it. Earlier on April 13, Yakub Sikder, driver of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw of the Janakantha and Abdul Halim, a rickshaw-puller, received bullet injuries when Rony fired indiscriminately on Dilu Road on the night of the day. Halim died on April 15, while Yakub succumbed to his injuries on April 23 during treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.Halim’s mother Monowara Begum filed a case with Ramna Model Police Station on April 15. The case was shifted to the Detective Branch (DB) of police on May 24. The DB personnel arrested Rony from his Elephant Road residence on May 31. The following day, a Dhaka court granted a four-day remand to allow the DB people to interrogate Rony. On June 13, police produced Rony to the court after the remand ended. The court fixed June 16 for hearing on the bail petition filed by Rony’s lawyer.
