Rony opened fire from car, testifies his friend

Kamal Mahmud, a friend of ruling party MP Pinu Khan’s son Bakhtiar Alam Rony, stated before a Dhaka court that Rony opened fire indiscriminately from his car in New Easkaton area on April 13 that left two people dead.A court here on Wednesday recorded the statement of Kamal in the double murder case filed with the Ramna police station.Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Haque recorded the statement of Kamal Mahmud, who was in the car on the day, when the IO of the case DB inspector Dipak Kumar Das produced before the court.He mentioned in his statement that he was seated beside Rony in the car when the firing occurred. Meanwhile, Tanjir Ahmed, brother of Rony, filed a petition before the court for custody of the car which was seized earlier. After hearing the petition, the court directed the IO to examine the document of the ‘Prado’ car and submit report to the court.”Rony was annoyed in the traffic jam and fired gunshots with his licensed gun. I couldn’t say immediately whether anyone received bullet in the firing but later I came to know that two people received bullet and died”, Kamal told the court. Earlier on Tuesday, a Dhaka court rejected the bail petition of Bakhtiar Alam Rony, in the double murder case.Rony was sent to jail on Saturday on completion of his four-day remand.On April 13, Rony, said to be a drug addict, allegedly opened fire on people indiscriminately near Janakantha Bhaban in New Eskaton area from his car, leaving two people-rickshaw-puller Abdul Hakim and Janakantha’s auto-rickshaw driver Yakub-injured with bullets.Hakim succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on April 15 while Yeakub died at the hospital on April 23. On April 15, a case was filed with Ramna Police Station against unidentified people in this connection. On June 1, law enforces arrested Rony from his Dhanmondi residence in connection with the firing.
