Role of NBR to bring dynamism in Port activities stressed : Tofail

Commercial Minister Tofail Ahmed said Chittagong Port alone can never bring dynamism in its ongoing activities.
 He urges the National Board of Revenue to extend all possible cooperation in every steps of the port so as to deliver the import and export cargos quickly without losing time.
 The minister said if the NBR delays in releasing the imported cargo with quick process, then the importer will incur loss and the image of the port will be jeopardized in home and abroad.
He urged the concerned authority to keep open the port activities round the clock .
The minister disclosed it while addressing the concluding session of first ever Chittagong Port Expo on Friday evening as Chief Guest.
On the occasion of the 130th founding anniversary of Chittagong Port, Port Expo was organised at Port Car Shed from Thursday last.
Among others, in the concluding session , Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Finance Abdur Rajjak, local legislator MA Latif, Nazrul Islam ,FBCCI President Matlub Ahmed, Port Chairman Rear Admiral M Khaled Iqbal were present on the occasion.
 The chief guest in his brief deliverations stressed the need for construction of deep sea port either in Sonadia or Matarbari of Meshkhali and this matter of deep sea port will be discussed with the prime minister .He said there is no alternative of deep sea port in Chittagong belt. Port sources said 128 stakeholders installed their stalls in the port expo.
Speaking on the occasion Port chairman Khaled Iqbal said a medium scale sea port will be built in the middle point of Mirsharai and Sitakunda Upazila of the district.
He said the CPA is taking preparations to set up the port as the government has proposed to establish Dhaka-Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar an economic corridor and a techno economic feasibility study is being carried out to this end.
He said CPA is going to set up first-ever Bay Terminal on 1200 acres of land on the sea to enhance the growth and productivity of the country’s premier sea port to cope with the ever growing pressure on export import container handling.
The feasibility study of the Terminal which is expected to usher a new era in container handling will be completed next month
