NIT roundtable in Ctg: Role of media on expansion of tech education emphasized

A round table on ” Expansion of Technical Education in Economic development and Role of Media ” was held at Chittagong Senior’s Club auditorium yesterday morning . National Institute of Training (NIT) , Chittagong organised the roundtable meet patronised by the GOB, C anda and World Bank. Skills & Training Enhancement Project(STEP) of the GOB is assisting the training programs. NIT aimed at development of the skilled technicians either formal and informal sectors . Project Director of STEP Md Imran graced the roundtable as Chief discussant . Coordinator of STEP Md Zillur Rahman was the moderator of the discussions. Among others General secretary of Diploma Education Research council Khanjan Ranjan Roy, Abul Hossain President of Institute of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh Joy Prokash Barua of UCEP , journalists JIshu Roy, Nazimuddin Shamal, Kamaluddin Khokan, Nasirul Hoque, Jahedul Hoque, Sarwaruddinl, Md Nazrul Islam and Aminul Hoque Shahin participated the discussion on it.
 Chairman of NIT Ahsan Habib delivered concluding speech of the RT giving thanks to all present in the meet. Project Director of STEP in his welcome address in the RT said the present population of Bangladesh will stand at about 18 crores by 2030 and this human resources should be given proper education and skill training so as to become less dependent country in the world. He said there are huge demand of skilled manpower abroad and hence Bangladesh should increase rate of technical education by 30% by the end of 2030 . To reach the desired goal of the govt in tech education and skill training, govt has taken a long term project named STEP with the assistance of World Bank, Canada govt through imparting short term and long term technical education through different private technical education institutes, he added. These courses consists of 6 months and 4 years curriculum so as these trained technicians will easily get employment in abroad easily. Besides, govt is also trying to distribute Recognition of Prior Learner(RPL) certificate to these skilled knowledge workers of the society through imparting short courses, the NIT management sources said.
Chairman of the NIT in their written statement said at present NIT is offering three category of training viz. short term- 6 months, l long 4 yrs diploma and RPL(Recognition of prior Learner) and every students of three categories are providing financial support of Tk.4200 for sort term, Tk.4800 for long term per semester and Tk.Tk.1500 for RPL as stipend respectively and training fees free of cost. Sources said NIT imparted training to 44,768 students(short course) since 2010 and the average income of these trained persons not less than 9000 taka. The speakers in the meet said there is no alternatives of technical education to face the Global challenge in 2021.
