President Abdul Hamid has said lawyers are essential for the judiciary and their role in settling cases is important.
The President said this when the newly elected office-bearers of Dhaka Bar Association (DBA), led by its president Md Saidur Rahman made a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban here on Tuesday, President’s press secretary Joynal Abedin told BSS.
Bangladesh Awami League-backed lawyers clinched 21 out of the 27 positions, including that of the president and general secretary, in elections to Dhaka Bar Association held in February this year.
Congratulating the members of DBA, Abdul Hamid urged the lawyers to extend cooperation for establishing the rule of law and ensuring fair trials for those seeking justice.
DBA President Saidur Rahman apprised President Hamid of different activities of the bar association and sought his cooperation in the construction of a residential complex for the lawyers.
Senior lawyers Abdul Matin Khasru, Abdul Baset Majumder and Sahara Khatun, newly elected senior vice-president of DBA Afroza Begum and general secretary Md Ayubur Rahman were present, among others.
Secretaries concerned to the President were present.
