Role of Ittefaq in building public opinion for Liberation War recalled

Speakers at a discussion meeting marking the 64th founding anniversary of the Daily Ittefaq held here yesterday recalled the outstanding contributions of the Bangla newspaper and its founding editor Tafazzal Hussain Manik Mia in building up the public opinion as well as social and political movements against the then Pakistani military governments.
They said that the then Pakistani armed forces set ablaze the Ittefaq office during their overnight crackdown on the innocent people of the country on the night following March 25, 1971 as the newspaper highlighted the news of the atrocities, exploitation, repression and genocide carried out by the Pakistani military rulers and military forces in Dhaka and other parts of the country.
Deputy commissioner Netrakona Dr. Musfiqur Rahman and Police Super Netrakona Joydeb Chowdhury addressed the meeting as chief guest and special guest respectively while prominent social worker and language movement veteran Dr. MA Hamid was in the chair.
The meeting was addressed, among others, by local Awami League leader Mazharul Islam, district correspondent of the daily Ittefaq Shamolendu Paul, former secretary of Netrakona press club M Faqrul Haque, general secretary of district Mohila parishad Taheza Kanam, District Correspondent of the Daily Ittefaq Shamolendu Paul, joint secretary of Netrakona press club Alpana Begum, Editor of the Daily Alokito Netra Pathrika Moniruzzaman Mohosin and journalist AKM Abdullah.
