Rokeya Hall Alumni Assoc honours Baby Maudud

Dhaka University Rokeya Hall Alumni Association has honoured late journalist Baby Maudud for her lifelong contribution to the cause of women.
Celebrated actress Fredousi Majumder and Bangladesh Mahila Parisad chief Ayesha Khanam were also honoured in recognition of their work on the association’s third reunion on Friday.
Professor Emeritus Dr Anisuzzaman, chief guest of the event, presented Majumder and Khanam with crests and Uttariyas (shawls).
Baby Maudud’s son Rabiul Islam accepted the honour on behalf of his mother.
“She had worked all her life for the progress of women,” read her citation. “She is not physically with us, but her works will remain as beacons to her friends, comrades and future generation.”
Maudud, social affairs editor of bdnews24.com, died on Jun 25 after a long battle with cancer. She was 66.
NM Mahfuza Khatun, better known as Baby Maudud, began her career in journalism in 1967. She had held posts in Dainik Sangbad, the BBC, Daily Ittefaq, BSS and Shaptahik Bichitra before joining the bdnews24.com family.
