Indian team’s captain for Asia Cup, Rohit Sharma has credited the bowlers of Men in blue for their victory against arch rivals Pakistan by 9 wickets.
India met their arch rivals Pakistan on 23rd September in Dubai International Stadium in a super four game after beating them easily in the group stage. But the super four game was also same as the group stage game as India again thrashed by Pakistan by 9 wickets.
In the super four game, Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first. Indian bowlers kept the Pakistan batsmen in their control even though the men in blue didn’t take more wickets. In the death overs, Indian bowlers did a fantastic job to restrict the flow of Pakistan batsmen at the end. Finally Pakistan were managed to score only 237.
Then the Indian openers took India home as both of them scored century. The bowlers and the openers has made the things a lot easier for men in blue and the victory has confirmed a spot for India in final.
With this much easier win, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has credited his bowlers for keeping the things simple for India.”Challenging conditions, we knew it was going to be tough. I don’t want to take any credit from the boys, all of them showed great character, well done to the boys,” said Rohit Sharma in the post-match press conference.
“Bumrah has matured as a bowler now has played a great amount of cricket and he understands his bowling. Bhuvneshwar too did exactly the same. We never wanted to let them off the hook and our spinners have been magnificent throughout the tournament. They kept taking wickets and when you do that, you win.”
He further talked about the record stand with his opening partner Shikhar Dhawan which made the chase much easier for men in blue. “With Shikhar, I don’t need to talk much. It’s important to let him be himself. We have batted enough to know each other to start off like that and we clearly know our roles.”
“The most important thing was to bat as long as possible and that’s what we did. Nothing is easy [hitting sixes] and when it comes off it looks nice. I’ve gotten out playing those shots but it’s important to put pressure on the bowlers Pakistan have a great bowling line-up and it’s important to keep them under pressure. They’ve troubled us in the past,” he added.
