Rohingyas being transferred from Bandarban to Cox’s Bazar

The administration has transferred the Rohingyas to Cox’s Bazar who earlier took shelter on different points of Naikhongchhari Upazila in Bandarban District.
After the start of the Rohingya persecution by Myanmar army, about 28,160 Rohingyas took shelter at Naikhongchhari Sadar, Ghundum and Dochhari.
As per the government’s decision, at least 12,000 Rohingyas were transferred to Balukhali of Cox’s Bazar in the first phase since 20 October 2017. Later, in the second phase, the transfer was conducted in January last. In this connection, 850 Rohingyas of 189 families were transferred from Borochhankhola camp to Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday last.
Chairman of Naikhongchhari Sadar Union Parishad (UP) Toslim Iqbal Chowdhury said, “The administration has been transferring Rohingyas daily since January 14 last. Earlier, on January 18 last, the Shapmara Jhiri was also cleared of Rohingyas. The UP helped the administration in this connection.”
Chairman of Dochhari UP Habibullah said a final list has been prepared for sending 362 Rohingyas of 74 families from his union.
Bandarban District Administration sources said out of 16,160 Rohingyas at Dochhari, Ghundum and Sadar UP, at least 8,859 Rohingyas were sent to Kutupalong by January 14 to 29.
Deputy Commissioner Dilip Kumar Banik said the administration is working so that the rest refugees can be transferred to Cox’s Bazar by this February.
