Doctors have detected a Rohingya woman infected with HIV at Kutupalong refugee camp at Ukhiya in Cox’s Bazar.
The woman in her 50s was undergoing treatment at the state-run Cox’s Bazar General Hospital at the southeastern district on Saturday, Dr Shaheen Md Abdur Rahman Chowdhury told bdnews24.com.
He said, the woman, who fled the ongoing violent army crackdown on
the ethnic minority in Myanmar, was admitted to a hospital next to the refugee camp on Friday with illness.
When her condition deteriorated, the authorities transferred her to Fouad Al Khateeb Hospital, where the doctors conducted a series of tests and found HIV positive, the doctor said.
Dr Abdur Rahman said, Cox’s Bazar General Hospital also ran tests and detected HIV in her body.
She was being treated at ‘Ashar Alo’, the unit for HIV patients at the hospital, he added.
