The population of Rohingyas in Bangladesh is increasing by 35,000 every year because they are born.
Thus, the birth rate in the Rohingya camps area is rising alarmingly.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal disclosed it while talking to reporters after a meeting of National Committee for Coordination, Management and Law Enforcement affairs formed to oversee the Myanmar Rohingya people displaced from Myanmar, held on Sunday at the secretariat.
Among others, State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Enamur Rahman, State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Fazilatun Nesa Indira, Senior Secretary of the Department of Public Security Md Akhter Hossain, Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed, Secretary of the Department of Security Services Mokabbir Hossain and other members of the committee attended the meeting.
“I shall tell our health department and the Islamic Foundation to encourage the Rohingya people to use birth control methods. That is why we are going to take action in this regard,” the home minister said.
The population of Rohingya has increased by 1.5 lakh automatically as five years have already passed, he said. It should be taken seriously.
The Home minister said, UNHCR’s (UN High Commissioner for Refugees) database will be used to prevent Rohingyas from collecting Bangladeshi passports.
“The police, APBN, RAB and Ansar are jointly patrolling the Rohingya camps to maintain law and order round the clock. Army, BGB and RAB will patrol outside. If necessary, the army will also work with other law enforcement agencies. If any operation is required, the
army will also take part in it,” Kamal said.
Ration is given regardless of age in Rohingya camps. Even, ration is given to a one-day-old child like an adult. The committee suggested to give ration to Rohingya people on the basis of age.
“We are working hard to prevent drug trafficking in and around the Rohingya camps. We have decided to take strict action against drug smuggling in Naf river. The Rohingya community is getting involved in the drug trade and we are going to be tough in this regard,” the home minister said.
Snatching has decreased for taking appropriate steps by police in proper time, the Home Minister said in reply to a query.
