Three rod and steel manufacturing industry associations demanded to include MS Rod in the list of vat-exempt items and to provide the vat-exempt facility till June 30, 2019 as this goods are produced locally.
Bangladesh Auto Re-Rolling and Steel Mills Association, Bangladesh Steel Mill Owners’ Association, and Bangladesh Re-Rolling Mills Association made the demand to the Prime Minister, Finance Minister and National Board of Revenue, from a joint press conference, held at Dhaka Chambers of Commerce Industry (DCCI) auditorium in the city on Wednesday.
Monower Hossain, President of BARSMA presided over the conference where BSMOA Secretary General Md Sahajahan and BRMA General Secretary Md Mahabubur Rashid Jual also present among others..
Monower Hossain raised the demand in the press conference saying that the government has fully withdrawn VAT on locally made Refrigerator, Freezer, Air-conditioner, LPG cylinder and others in the name of safe guarding the local industry.
“So, we also can demand waiver of VAT on our products as these are also produced locally,” he added.
“If the government does not withdraw VAT on local MS products, then import of similar goods will surely increase and local industries would face uneven competition countries,” he cautioned.
“So we will urge the government to include the re-rolling industry in the list of duty waiver.”
BSMOA Secretary General Md Sahajahan said that if the government is really want to save local industry than we deserve this safe guard initiative.
“If the VAT is not withdrawn then price of the primary construction materials would increase significantly. So, for the shake of construction industry and considering lively hood of ove one million dependants the government should consider our demand,” he added.
