Robi funded “English in School” in associate with The Daily Star jointly organized a training session for English teachers in Khulna region on Friday.
The programme was participated by 75 teachers from 25 schools across the division, aimed at developing their teaching skills.
Robi’s Vice-President, Communications and Corporate Responsibility Ekram Kabir had inaugurated the training session as the Chief Guest. Khulna Region’s Deputy Director, Secondary & Higher Education T.M. Zakir Hossain was present at the program as Special Guest. Consultant for EnglishinSchools (EIS) at The Daily Star Dr Salehuddin Ahmed was also present on the occasion.
The primary objective of this session is to build capacity of the English teachers of these schools with a view to improve their standard of English teaching. Throughout the day the teachers were exposed to modern tools and techniques of teaching English language.
The focus was to make learning English an enjoyable experience for the students. In this connection, the teachers took part in various role-playing exercises. This helped them to realize how they need to address the gaps in their English teaching method. They also had in-depth discussion on the modality of the EIS programme and shared their views and opinions with the organizers of the training session on how it could be improved further.
The current englishinschool project stipulates training sessions for teachers of 100 selected secondary schools across four (4) zones: Sylhet, Khulna, Chittagong and Rajshahi. The selected 25 schools from each zone are receiving copies of The Daily Star every Monday, along with a supplement — ‘EIS Content Page’ — as another English learning tool both for students and relevant teachers.
At the same time, each school is receiving fifty (50) pullout copies of the content page the same day of EIS content page every week. There will be a total of eight (8) teachers’ training sessions across the four (4) zones, in participation of two (2) teachers from each school. The first sessions in each zone will also include the respective headmasters/principals from the schools.
As part of its Corporate Responsibility Robi has been steering the “englishinschools” programme in partnership with The Daily Star over the years to help develop English language learning proficiency of secondary level students across the country.
