Staff Reporter :Police in a drive arrested 18 suspected members of a robber gang following an abortive robbery attempt at Golapbagh in the city’s Jatrabari area early Thursday.All of the arrestees hail from Chokoria upazila of Cox’s Bazar district. Deputy Commissioner (Wari Division) of DhakaMetropolitan Police Sayed Nurul Islam said tipped off, a team of Jatrabari police station conducted a raid at a six-storey building around 1:30am in the area and arrested the 18 while they were taking preparation to commit a robbery. However, the gang’s ringleader, Harun, managed to flee the scene, Nurul Islam said at a press briefing at the DMP Media Centre. The law enforcers also recovered 40 mobile phone sets, six laptops, one gadget and some local weapons from the arrestees’ possession.Harun leads several gangs whose members snatch valuables and money from the pedestrians in the city, he added. Drives are going on at several places to hunt down Harun and his gang members, Nurul said.
