Robbers strangulated a man and looted at least Tk 10 lakh in cash, and ornaments from a house at Shahjahanpur in the capital early Tuesday.
The victim has been identified as Abdul Jalil Mia, 52, hailing from Faridpur district.
Quoting the relatives of the deceased, Shahjahanpur Police Station’s Sub-Inspector (SI) Sheikh Saiful Islam said that a gang of four to five robbers kept Jalil’s wife hostage at daggers point.
At on stage, they suffocated him to death with a pillow and looted Tk 10 lakh in cash, 500 US dollar and fled from the spot safely.
The deceased’s son Jalil woke up in the early hours, hearing scream from his parents’ room, and found him dead, the police official said.
Jalil recently came to his son Parvez Ahmed in the city for treatment, the SI said.
The body has been sent to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) morgue, he said.
